May. 3rd, 2016 02:06 amSo...I'm still around, haha. And now that school's out for summer I'm going to make another attempt at being more active in the LJ-posting department. So.
Most interesting thing that's happened to me lately is that I went to Brooklyn for the first time in my life, which would be awesome enough by itself, but I went there to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of the Henriad and I AM STILL NOT OVER IT. I WILL NEVER BE OVER IT. /screams/ I mean, David Tennant was Richard II. I was in the same building as the Doctor. My fifteen-year-old self was in hysterics. It was a pretty kickass trip.
But yeah, my life lately has pretty much consisted of school. Which has contributed to the realization that I really want to go to grad school, which...probably means I'm certifiable, lol, but if I can finangle a way to talk about this historical/literary stuff for the rest of my life, I'll be happy as a clam.

Now I have all this free time, you know? I need to write fic (accepting winter/Christmas-y prompts now~). And also knit (dammit, Heather, I blame you for this).
Speaking of, I've managed to backslide horribly into the Naruto fandom in the wake of that, well, divisive finale, and am going through my old favorite fics like a maniac. Watching AMVs. I feel like it's 2008 again or something, it's so weird. x'D
So how are you lovely people? Going through academic hell, making holiday plans, getting into new fandoms? What's happening? :D

I got geeky thingggs, which makes me very very happy. Comic books, figurines, and a dalek dress that makes me want to do a little dance of joy. :D We're going to see The Hobbit DOS later, which hopefully won't make me cry too much, because I skipped a Merlin finale rewatch and am avoiding the DW Christmas Special till tomorrow as well because I didn't want to end up bawling my eyes out on Christmas due to fictional characters. Again. ^^;

Also (completely unrelated), Ten Inch Hero is a surprisingly awesome movie. Being a very shallow person, I got it solely for Jensen Ackles. And I did love Priestly with every fiber of my being (the tampon scene, dear god in heaven the tampon scene, I died laughing), and I did want to steal every single one of his T-shirts, and yeah.
But I ended up loving everyone else just as well. Piper, Trucker, Jen (oh, you sweet baby, you are friggin' beautiful), Tish...and the message was pretty fantastic. I laughed myself stupid. And I cried, because I am a baby. Mostly I just smiled this huge, doofy smile. It's a really fantastic feel-good movie; Netflix has it on instant if y'all want to check it out.
Mini movie review over. This is what I am doing instead of watching the Superbowl. *fistpump* Anyone else not watching the game? xD

Dec. 23rd, 2011 10:42 pmSo I just watched Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage. Yes, you may laugh at me.
At first it was just for the indescribable adorableness that is Jared Padalecki in a wardrobe consisting entirely of wooly hats and knit scarves (why yes, I am shallow), but it turned out to be a much better movie than I was expecting. It's the kind of movie that kinda feels like a 1.5-hour-long Christmas card straight out of Hallmark, but it makes you feel so warm and fuzzy inside that you don't even care.
Although I gotta say, if anyone else had been playing the lead role, I don't know that I would've been able to buy it. Jared gets to use the Puppy Eyes of Doom to brilliant effect here. And I ended up spending the last fifteen minutes or so embarrassingly teary-eyed. Damn adorable man and his damn awesome acting.
So. My mortifying movie preferences aside, tomorrow is Christmas Eve, y'all! Everyone finished their shopping and/or fics? Any super special awesome plans? Spill~

TBC because it's delightfully dark for a Disney movie (blood, talk of actual death, a friggin' ZOMBIE ARMY) and has probably the single scariest villain in animated history (hi thar, Horned King, you still terrify me). Treasure Planet because Jim is an adorably realistic character, everything's beautiful/cool to look at, the bond between Jim and Silver turns me to mush every time and the music is awesome. Mulan because...well, it's friggin' Mulan. Great music, awesome characters, kickass heroine, pretty to look at, funny...everything that makes Disney epic. :D

Not only is it Pooh's first new movie in traditional animation in the better part of a decade, but they used a Keane song for the trailer for maximum heartstring harp potential. Anyway, I just saw it and it was so cute and funny and for one glorious hour I was a little kid again.

EDIT 11/24/10: Ahkay, so I've watched two episodes so far (1 and 4); as I never saw season one of the anime to begin with, everything is coming as a bit of a surprise! But on to the voices...
Sebastian: He sounds so very different from anything I'd imagined. That being said, once I got used to it I kinda liked it. Nothing can beat the Japanese VA (and his "Akuma de shitsuji desu kara" line in particular ♥), though.
Ciel: Not bad at all. The fact that his VA is a woman is way more obvious in English than in Japanese (or maybe that's just me?), but still. Sounds pretty dang good.
Undertaker: Okay, so he sounds a little bit like a pirate. Who cares? This is one case in which the English voice sounded more like I imagined than the Japanese one did.
Madam Red: Fabulous~
Finny: A little too masculine for my taste.
Mey Rin (or however the crap you spell her name...): ...IDK...
Bard: I really like it. Only quibble--he's supposed to be American, is he not?
Viscount Druitt: Perfect mix of suave and creepy. Thought it was a woman talking at first, though. xD
I wanna hear Grell's voice soo bad. In all of his reaper-y glory, that is. And William T. Spears'. And Soma and Agni's. Grah.
Overall, I think they did a pretty good job with the dub! It'll take some getting used to, and even then I can't see preferring it to the original version, but still. Nicely done, Funimation.
