Naruto 559 (or: I actually did not see this coming)

HOLY WHAT. The Naruto world has been rocked again! I actually feel obligated to spoilertag this one.



I had other stuff I was planning on discussing here, but it's gone now. I don't believe it. Kabutomaru's last Magical Box was finally opened, and his trump card is revealed to be...

Madara.

That's right. Madara is dead, and is now a zombie under Kabutomaru's control. From the looks of it, he's been dead for quite some time.

HOLY CRACKERS GUYS.

This reopens every single theory ever theorized about who "Tobi" is and what lies underneath the mask. It could also potentially shred to bits every single thought we've ever had about Madara's life and character. (In a way, I'm almost relieved. Past!Madara seemed like a pretty cool character, and it'll be easier to take him seriously knowing he didn't come up with the Moon's Eye Plan.)

Sooo...theories, anyone? Anything goes now. ;) I'm tempted to think it's either Shisui or Izuna, myself. Shisui because it just makes sense, unfortunately--Tobi only had one eye that we ever saw, and it was a Sharingan; it would also explain why Shisui's body could never be found. I really kinda don't want it to be him, though, because then where will that leave us fans? ;~; And Izuna because...IDK. It would just be interesting.

EDIT: Okay, so clearly it's not Shisui (unless Kishimoto pulls a retcon on us). Obito and "Tobi" have a definite resemblance in appearance and name, but why would he want to start a war? At this point I am leaning towards Izuna, the original little Uchiha brother. He was a pacifist, so maybe he thought the endgame of the Moon's Eye Plan would be world peace or something? I don't know.


In short, GO READ IT NOW GO GO GO! This needs to be discussed!

Shisui? I don't know. I don't /think/ so. When we saw Shisui, his right eye was missing - which is the one we saw the masked man still have. Obito, on the other hand, was the one who gave his left eye to Kakashi and would therefore still be in the possession of his right eye.

Mm, good point about the eyes. Phew. I would really hate it if Shisui turned out to be the Big Bad. Obito, though...I totally forgot that everyone thought he was Tobi way back when! O__O Ooh, that'd be a twist...but why would Obito want to take over the world, I wonder? This guy better have a good, well thought out backstory...no more cheap Freudian excuses, Kishi. >.>

Okay, help me here. According to Naruto 550 page 10 Shisui was missing his left eye. I'm looking at a picture of Tobi right now and it looks like his left eye is also covered up. So they both had the same eye working/uncovered. Unless I'm totally missing something. ^^;

Holy hell, what a twist! O___O I would never have guessed that we'd get treated to something like this... And yeah, it does kinda overthrow all our theories. I had considered trying to continue my story PIE again when school will be done, but now I feel kinda stupid, because then everyone would be all like: "OMG Madara isn't Tobi U FAIL" ... :/

Oooooh, I don't wanna imagine the reactions when the truth is revealed as to who is beneath that mysterious mask... I like both your ideas, SS! I'm taking whatever will come, but yeah, when thinking back on how much fun I had when writing Shisui in MTCLF, it would pain me too if he'd turn out to be the evil mastermind... ;_;

Hear hear! This is the biggest twist since...well...since we figured out Itachi was a good guy! And yeah, this totally Josses a million fics/characterizations/theories right here. The Narutopedia people must be going nuts trying to edit their pages right now. xD

Yeah...I am going to be very, very sad if Shisui turns out to be a villain. Either way, I hope Kishi does justice to whoever "Tobi" is. I hope this guy gets a good, thorough backstory and everything.

Oh God, I remember learning about that Itachi twist - it made me so happy because it was my gateway to Uchihacest (specifically Itachi and Sasuke ^^)!

I just hope he won't wait a gazillion chapters before at least giving us more hints about the masked man's identity and his background, otherwise I'm gonna scream. But he just KNOWS that he's got us hooked now... Thing is, a couple of us speculated a long time ago that it was Madara's original body that was in Kabuto's mystery crate. Considering how he just mixes and matches his "parts" these day, it's entirely possible that it's still him, just with a new body.

Don't worry, Itachi is on his way to Kabuto now! He'll set things straight! /hopeful I really don't think he could have spent God-knows-how-many-years working with "Shisui" in close proximity and somehow not know. He would have to be really dumb. Like, dumber than I ever suspected, which would be quite a lot.

I'm pretty sure it's not Shisui. Like I said, the eyes are wrong. We only ever saw "Madara's" right eye, which is the one Shiusi was missing. Obito would come into mind, here, because he's the one missing his left eye.
Or maybe it's someone else altogether.

I find this theory about him still being Madara, just with different bodypart interesting. But, knowing Kishi, it will take us another 6 months to finally have this mystery solved...

The thing about that is, as nthcoincident pointed out, why would Madara be so freaked out about potentially having to fight his baby self?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about that. Hopefully that'll clear some things up. And no, the Shisui theory's been totally debunked by Morena at this point. Thank goodness. >.>;

I assume you're referring to his (also assuming this is still Madara) reaction when Kabuto showed him the content of the crate? I always read that as more of a horrified "How did you get your hands on that?" reaction born of disgust and shock rather than true fear. I'd be somewhat disturbed myself if someone showed me my own dead body which they apparently plan to resurrect at will.

If you reaaaally want some far-fetched speculation, perhaps that body has some special ~spiritual~ connection which could somehow affect his current state, and Kabuto is holding that over him like a trump card. I don't know, this development feels a lot more like a red herring to me than a truly game-changing twist.
