halfway there....

My novel is currently sitting pretty at nearly 22,000 words. And by pretty of course I mean it's a mess of run-on sentences and pointless filler and the barest semblance of "plot" cobbled together in week two, but hey--it's all about the word count for now, right?

Fellow NaNoers, how goes it? What havoc has this project wreaked on your life so far?

*raises hand* I'm not participating, but I do have a question: how many pages are you up to?
--> wants to get an idea of how much 50,000 words are because she just can't quite imagine the concept, particularly since there's a time limit ^^;

Wellll, at the moment I'm just over 22,000 words and 52 pages. I've heard 50K is supposed to be somewhere in the 175-page range, but I think it always comes down to how long your paragraphs are, how much dialogue you have, etc.

If you just try to stick to your word count every day, it's surprisingly not awful, lol. Heck, I decided to do it on the friggin' day, so if you actually prepared I bet it wouldn't be too hard. Great way to get back into the swing of writing, too--you don't have time to go over (read: hate) everything you write. xD

Sounds like a plan. I seriously can't afford to get behind in my courses, so I've been doing a lot of writing in the eleven PM to one AM area. xD;;

One thing I've been trying is to write random scenes that don't have anything to do with where I left my novel, then paste them in where they sorta fit. Like, drabble-length stuff. It doesn't take long and it ups your word count which, hey, every little bit counts, right?

175 pages...! *whistles* Hoo boy, that's a lot!

Hmm, but what about once you're done? <-- has the terrible habit of reading everything ~6 times before posting it and usually hating it by then xD

Yeah, but like I said, it all depends on paragraph length and diologue, stuff like that. I don't even know if I'll be able to finish my story in 50K. x'D

Then begins the editing process, I guess. You go back and you cut things and rewrite them and go all OCD on it. But the point of NaNo itself is just to get to 50K, even if every word sucks. xD
