Naruto 558
Oct. 5th, 2011 09:07 amWell, seeing as today has already sucked and it ain't even 9 AM yet, I wasn't expecting much from the latest chapter. And while it wasn't awesome or anything, it was certainly a step up from the last few.
So first off, the title page in this one--with the old-style Naruto and Sasuke--was epic. Loved that.
And Muu's warning was adequately explained after all! I'm pleasantly surprised. Gotta wonder what he's planning to summon...a giant scorpion? *has Mummy on the brain now*
For about five minutes I enjoyed seeing Naruto look and act like his regular self. Then it turned out that was just a clone. Okay. There's something wrong here when the clone of the original seems more IC than the original himself. But whatever.
Speaking of adequately explaining things..."nature calling" Bee has to be one of if not the lamest excuse I have ever heard. I think Kishimoto just forgot to draw him the last couple chapters, saw the fandom wondering where the heck he was, had an "oh shit" moment and came up with that panel.
Then begins an attempt to give Dan a personality. Or maybe this was a one-time deal and he'll never pop up again. Who knows. On a vaguely related note, Naruto must have the most normal-looking face in the ninja world because it seems like he reminds everybody of somebody. Or is it just me?
And SuperNaruto gets two damsels in distress to save this chapter! (Although I'm still confused on that first Hinata exchange...was that Hinata a Zetsu or what?) Our list of capable kunoichi continues to dwindle, people.
So like I said, while not awesome, this chapter was more of a step in the right direction. We got to see some old faces, if briefly, and if only to showcase how they pale in comparison to Naruto. The battles were short this time around, at least, and the art they showcased at the end there was beautiful as well. Hopefully things will keep getting better from here.
What'd you all think?
