I'm referring, of course, to Star Wars.

I just had a friend over who only recently binge-watched the original trilogy and had somehow managed to get through the last few months without getting spoiled for The Force Awakens. So we watched TFA and I got to witness her flailing and shrieking and gasping over the Ben Solo reveal (the minutes leading up to Han's death consisted of repeated mutterings of "No, no, no, don't you dare--"). It was pretty fun, and since we were on a Star Wars high we decided to start on the prequel movies, which she also hadn't seen. Cue The Phantom Menace.

Now, you have to understand something here. I grew up with six Star Wars movies. I grew up watching both the original trilogy and the prequels (originals first, of course--some things are sacred); the only one I actually remember coming out is Revenge of the Sith, and even then I was too young to really care about seeing it in theaters. There was never a divide for me between the "original" and the "new" movies. Star Wars was Star Wars.

And yeah, I've spent a fair amount of time since then reading meta on how terrible the prequels are on almost every level. And I could accept a lot of those arguments from memory alone (you ave to admit that the romance writing is unforgettably bad). But they remained fixed in my mind as decent movies--flawed, definitely, but enjoyable.

And then I rewatched TPM tonight, for the first time in years.

Hoo boy.

how could this happen to meee )

So...I'm still around, haha. And now that school's out for summer I'm going to make another attempt at being more active in the LJ-posting department. So.

Most interesting thing that's happened to me lately is that I went to Brooklyn for the first time in my life, which would be awesome enough by itself, but I went there to see the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of the Henriad and I AM STILL NOT OVER IT. I WILL NEVER BE OVER IT. /screams/ I mean, David Tennant was Richard II. I was in the same building as the Doctor. My fifteen-year-old self was in hysterics. It was a pretty kickass trip.

But yeah, my life lately has pretty much consisted of school. Which has contributed to the realization that I really want to go to grad school, which...probably means I'm certifiable, lol, but if I can finangle a way to talk about this historical/literary stuff for the rest of my life, I'll be happy as a clam.

i need to stop writing blog posts at 2am

And in this year's edition of Em's Mortifying Movie Preferences (this shit always seems to happen around Christmas): A Princess for Christmas, or Christmas At Castlebury Hall depending on which release you're watching. It's a 90-minute cheesefest with an extra side helping of cornball, as well as a dash of iffy-to-awful acting (particularly in the beginning).

But it has Katie McGrath in it, so naturally I loved the damn thing.

I am of course a cheeseball and a hopeless romantic and okay, fine, there's a few Hallmark movies that don't make me giggle helplessly at how terrible they are (see: Help For the Holidays because FRICKING SUMMER GLAU AS AN ELF IT'S TOO CUTE TO BE ALLOWED), so there are legitimate reasons why I might not dislike this movie. But let's face it, it all boils down to the same damn reasons I didn't laugh my ass off all the way through Thomas Kincaid's freaking Christmas Cottage--a gorgeous actor parading around in various scarves and knit caps and, in this case, a gorgeous sparkly dress. Oh, Katie, gorgeous, talented, beautiful Katie, I remain unsure as to whether I want to kiss you or be you. Ugh.

So I have an AO3 now! And oh, this is beautiful, I can finally subscribe to all these wonderful authors and skip Adult Content Warning pages and I just feel so inadequate posting my old stuff but damn, this site is fine.

I'm jinkandtherebels, and if any of you guys have AO3 accounts (and I know some of you do), let me know? :D

Mmkay, random question--how much snow do y'all currently have, if any? We've got a few inches here and it's cold as shit, but it does look nice and Christmassy.

Liking Hashirama, even if he isn't what I was expecting. Really liking the dynamic between him and his brother. REALLY liking how Minato is fanboying over both of them. xD

Liking that Hashirama is willing to try and patch things up with Sasuke, rather than write him off as another insane Uchiha and nothing more.

Not sure how I feel about the fact that there's probably going to be about 2634 chapters of flashback now before we get back to the actual plot. More credence to the theory that Kishimoto is buying time so he can keep making shit up by the seat of his pants, but whatever works.

Laughing at the fact that we are currently getting a flashback within a flashback. What is this series.

And of course, squeeing over baby Madara. He looks so much like Sasuke, as a young man too but especially as a kid, all pouty and adorable. HashiMada shippers, I get the feeling you guys are gonna have a lot of fuel coming your way...

Thoughts? Is anyone else still on this crazy train? xD

I...don't understand.

I don't understand why the tragic backstory of our sweet-Obito-turned-Big-Bad is being dedicated to conversations about pooping.

I don't understand how this emphasizes the tragedy. Or how it pertains to his story. Or hell, how it does anything but further destroy our ability to take Mr. Moon's Eye Plan seriously.

I also don't understand why Zetsu and...whatever the hell Tobi's Mask guy (another Zetsu?) are being so buddy-buddy with Obito. Zetsu's never really acted like this before that I can recall.

I still don't understand how the multiple Zetsus that can apparently be molded onto living bodies (see: Obito) thing works. Or how Obito ended up underground to begin with.

Or, I dunno, what the hell Madara was doing there/how he survived this long/why his zombie body is so much younger than his current one.

Thoughts? Is there a deep meaning to all of this that's going straight over my head?

So in roughly ten hours I shall get up to spend my birthday at an anime con.

Timing is occasionally awesome. xD

The Trololo Man has died.

This upsets me more than it probably should.

Rest in peace, sir. *bows head*

So I watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Which was awesome. I think I'm a little bit in love with Neil Patrick Harris now; he's so freaking cute in this movie. The music was surprisingly awesome. The whole thing was so funny and cute and awesome...and then that ending happened. Goddammit, I should've seen it coming as soon as Joss Whedon's name popped up. Ah well; great movie anyways.

i need someone to do the "On The Rise" duet with me now, gah

In other news...New Year's Eve, y'all! Anyone making resolutions? Any parties or other plans? I'm working, shock shock. xD

ElfQuest comic books. Signed ElfQuest comic books.

Hell yes, I'm a geek.

In other news, went to see the second Sherlock Holmes today. I'd heard rumors that it was even more slashtastic than the first one, but it didn't seem possible. was possible. xD Everyone have a good Christmas? ♥

When I write a story, what do you guys immediately look for?

(Incidentally, I've stayed up to obscene hours the last few nights reading Dean/Cas fic. This meme was stolen from an author of said fic. xD)

So I finally made it to season 4 of Supernatural and am consistently impressed with how much torture the writers inflict on these poor boys. I mean, I knew the show was partly famous for that alone, but...yeesh. They are in need of so many hugs.

Anyway, Cas, you finally joined the party. Am I correct in guessing that there is a truckload of extra Ho Yay coming our way now, or does the seemingly endless supply of Dean/Cas fanfiction lie? XD

This entry really doesn't have much resembling a point. Sorry for taking up flist space with it. xD; Oh, and NO SPOILERS PLZ. ♥

Oh! I did take a leaf out of ronsard's book and tried typing 'シスイ' into the search engine; amazing how much more Shisui/ItaShi fanart comes back when you use the Japanese spelling. Go figure. Anyway, there'll be a minor artdump post over on b_n thanks to that. ^^

Have a great weekend~

Warehouse 13. So they brought H.G. back. Not a big surprise, considering. At the end of the last season I insisted I didn't want her brought back, despite being my favorite character on the show; something about cheapening all the events of that last episode, yadda yadda.

But hey--if the producers don't care about all that, then neither do I. xD Okay, so it looks like this'll be a one-episode thing (for now...), but I still loved having Helena back. In all her brilliant, butt-kicking, UST-with-Myka-ing glory. So fun. All you really need is one awesome character to stay interested in a show. With Justifed it was Boyd Crowder, with Sanctuary it was Nikola Tesla, with W13 it's H.G. Wells. I'm noticing a theme here...

On a totally unrelated topic, has anyone on my flist ever seen The Prince of Egypt? I hadn't watched it in the better part of a decade and therefore had totally forgotten how good it was. And by good I mean epic in every sense of the word. Beautiful animation, terrific storyline, amazing music, etc. etc. And the parting of the Red Sea scene is possibly the coolest sequence of animation you will ever see. The movie basically leaves you with a broken heart and at least one song stuck in your head that you won't be able to get out for ages. Seriously. Just hope it's one of the happier ones, lest you walk around feeling vaguely upset for days on end.

In case you were wondering, this is what happens when a keyboard is before me while I am exhausted. Should go sleep. Will probably end up listening to music until 2 in the morning instead. Happy Sunday, y'all.

Wow. Haven't seen Iruka in a while...

Well, that was interesting. Although I gotta say, I always figured Iruka as more of a father figure to Naruto than a big brother one. Whatever. It was sweet regardless.

Finally, finally, FINALLY Naruto knows what's going on and is charging into the fray! All I can say is, it's about time!

One slightly random thing--the crow Itachi shoved down Naruto's throat a million chapters ago? Anybody remember that? I'm collecting theories as to what its purpose is and/or whether Kishimoto's forgotten about it entirely. Honestly, I couldn't blame him. With all these age-old plot twists that have apparently been abandoned, you need a friggin' scorecard to keep track...

But anyway, what'd you all think?
